Do I need a website for my LLC?

Legally, no. Practically, it helps more than you'd think, mostly during the signups you'll do in your first few months. Here's why, and what a small, good LLC site includes.

The legal answer: no

Forming or running an LLC doesn't require a website. Your state cares about your filings, not your homepage.

Plenty of businesses get by without one. A 2026 census of about 92,000 local business Google listings found 17% had no website.

Why a website helps anyway

  • Payment processors, banks and vendors often ask for a website during signup. Having one ready makes that step smoother.
  • Credibility. Customers and partners look you up before they call, hire or pay you.
  • Your Google Business Profile gets a place to point, so people who find you on Maps can learn more.
  • Professional email needs a domain. An address at your own business name reads better than a personal one.
  • One place for the basics, so you aren't retyping them in every message.

What a minimal good LLC site includes

  • Your business name, the way it's registered
  • What you do and who you do it for, in a sentence or two
  • Where you work: a city, a service area or online
  • How to reach you: a contact form, email and phone
  • Your hours, if you keep regular ones
  • A domain registered in your name, ready for matching email

One page is often enough to start

A new LLC rarely needs more than one good page. Skosh's One Page plan is $69 a month, $0 down, with one scrolling page, a contact form and 2 changes a month. Add pages later as the business grows.

If you'd rather build it yourself, a DIY builder works too. Either way, register the domain in your name.

Is a website legally required for an LLC?

No. Forming and running an LLC doesn't require one. If you have questions about your specific situation, check with your state or an attorney.

Will my payment processor or bank ask for a website?

They often do during signup. Requirements vary, so check with each one. Having a real site ready makes that step easier.

Can I use a social media page instead?

For some things, yes. But a social page doesn't give you a domain for professional email, and the platform controls it, not you.
