Squarespace alternatives for small business

Squarespace makes good-looking templates, which is why so many photographers, makers and small businesses start there. People usually leave for one of two reasons: the cost, or the hours spent keeping it current.

What Squarespace costs now

Squarespace plans run about $16 to $99 a month billed annually, or about $25 to $56 billed month to month. Prices changed in August 2026, so check your current plan.

If cost is your reason for leaving, compare the full yearly price, including the domain and email, not just the headline monthly number.

If you want something cheaper

Another DIY builder's entry plan, such as Wix or GoDaddy's builder, can cost less per month. The tradeoff is the same: you build and update it yourself.

Self-hosted WordPress can be inexpensive to host, but you take on updates, security and backups, or pay someone to.

If you want less work

A designer can build a custom site for a one-time fee, then charge for changes. A done-for-you monthly service builds it, hosts it and makes your changes for one price.

Skosh is the second kind: $0 down, then $69, $99 or $149 a month, with 2, 4 or 8 changes included and your domain in your name.

Squarespace alternatives for photographers and creatives

Portfolios live on image quality and speed. Whatever you pick, look for large, fast-loading galleries that work well on a phone, a simple way to inquire or book, and the ability to add new work without a redesign.

On Skosh, adding new photos to a gallery is one change: send them from your phone and we add them.

  • Download your images at full size and copy your text.
  • List every page address, so they can be redirected after the move.
  • Check annual plan renewal dates, so you don't pay for a year you won't use.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Squarespace?

Some builders' entry plans cost less per month. Compare the full yearly cost, including domain and email, and count the hours you spend on updates too.

Can I move my Squarespace site to another platform?

Your text, images and domain can move. The design can't be exported, so the site is rebuilt on the new platform.

What's the best Squarespace alternative for photographers?

It depends on whether you want to build it yourself. If you do, try another builder's portfolio templates. If you'd rather not, a done-for-you site with fast galleries saves you the hours.
